🤝 Quick Answer
To create an Instagram collab post: Create a new post → Tap "Tag people" → Select "Invite collaborator" → Search and add the account → Share. The post appears on both profiles once your collaborator accepts the invitation.
What is an Instagram Collab Post?
Instagram Collab is a feature that allows you to co-author a Feed post or Reel with another account. The post appears on both profiles with both usernames displayed, and all engagement (likes, comments, views) is shared.
Benefits of Collab Posts:
- ✓Double the reach – Post shows to both audiences
- ✓Shared engagement – Combined likes, comments, and views
- ✓Cross-promotion – Expose brand to new followers
- ✓Single post – No duplicate content on your profile
How to Create a Collab Post
Start Creating a Post or Reel
Tap the + button on Instagram and select your content (photo, video, or Reel). Proceed to the editing and caption screen.
Tap "Tag People"
On the final screen before posting (where you write your caption), find and tap "Tag people".
Select "Invite Collaborator"
At the top of the tagging screen, you'll see "Invite collaborator" option. Tap it to search for accounts.
Search and Add Collaborator
Search for the account you want to collaborate with and tap to add them. You can add up to 3 collaborators.
Share Your Post
Complete your caption and tap Share. The collaborator will receive an invitation request that they need to accept.
⚠️ Important
The collab post will only appear on your collaborator's profile after they accept the invitation. Until then, it only shows on your profile. They'll receive the invite in their DMs and Activity tab.
How to Accept a Collab Request
If someone invited you to collaborate on their post:
Check your Activity tab (heart icon) or DMs for the invitation
Tap on the notification to review the post
Tap "Accept" to add the post to your profile, or "Decline" to reject
💡 Review the post carefully before accepting – it will appear on your profile exactly as created.

Troubleshooting Common Issues
Can't find "Invite Collaborator" option
Make sure your Instagram app is updated to the latest version. The feature may also be restricted based on account type or region.
Collaborator didn't receive invitation
Ask them to check their message requests and Activity tab. If they have restricted your account, they won't receive the invite.
Can't add certain accounts
Some business accounts may have collaboration requests disabled, or the account may have blocked you from tagging them.
