Frequently asked questions

Instagram doesn't have a native 'repost to feed' feature. You can only share posts to your Story natively. To repost to your feed, you'd need to screenshot/screen record (with permission and credit) or use third-party repost apps—but always get permission first.

The original poster may have disabled resharing. Go to Settings → Privacy → Story → Allow Sharing. If this is off on their account, you won't see the 'Add to Story' option. Private accounts also restrict sharing to non-followers.

If you share their post to your Story, they receive a notification (unless they've turned these off). They can also see their post was shared in their Insights. If using third-party apps, they won't be notified.

Always: 1) Use the native share feature (automatically includes their username), 2) Tag them in your Story, 3) Mention them in any caption, 4) Don't crop out their username. Ask permission for feed reposts.

Yes! When someone tags you in their Story, you get a notification with an 'Add to Your Story' option. Tap it to instantly share their Story (with their content and tag visible) to your own Story.

Open your post → Tap share icon → 'Add to Story' to share to Stories. For feed reposts, you can archive the post and then unarchive it (this refreshes engagement). Or simply post the content again with updated caption.

1) Always credit the original creator, 2) Ask permission for feed reposts, 3) Don't crop out usernames/watermarks, 4) Add value with your own commentary, 5) Don't repost someone's content as your own (that's stealing).

No. Posts from private accounts can only be shared by approved followers, and only within the app (not to your Story unless you're an approved follower). Respect private accounts' content boundaries.
