How to hide your followers on Instagram

  1. Open your profile settings. Go to your Instagram profile, tap the menu (three lines) in the top right, then tap Settings and privacy.
  2. Open Account privacy. Tap Account privacy. This is where you control who can see your followers, following list, and posts.
  3. Turn on Private account. Toggle Private account on. Your followers and following lists are now hidden from anyone who isn't an approved follower.
  4. Remove unwanted followers (optional). To drop a specific follower without blocking them, open your followers list, tap the menu next to their name, and choose Remove. They aren't notified.
🙈 The honest version

You can't hide just your followers — but you can do this

Let's be straight about it: Instagram does not have a setting that hides only your follower or following list while you stay a public account. Anyone can tap those counts and scroll the full lists. The only built-in way to hide them is to switch to a private account, which limits your followers, following, and posts to people you've approved. Everyone else sees just your name, photo, bio, and the raw counts.

If going fully private is too much, you still have two useful levers. You can remove individual followers without blocking them — they aren't notified and simply stop following you — and you can quietly unfollow accounts you no longer want in your following list, again with no notification sent. Together those let you tidy up who's connected to you without the all-or-nothing of a private account.

Privacy works both ways — here's the part people miss

The same logic that protects you protects everyone else: Instagram never reveals who viewed your profile or browsed your followers, so no one can see when you look either. That means you can quietly check things without leaving a trace. What you genuinely can see is who unfollowed you and who doesn't follow you back — the activity Instagram hides behind a number. And if you want to look through a public profile's posts and stories without logging in or being seen, the anonymous Instagram viewer does exactly that.

Do it safely — never your password

Whatever you use to manage or watch your followers, the rule is simple: never hand over your Instagram password. That's how accounts get hacked. UnfollowCheck reads only public data from a @username and checks your unfollowers with no login at all — which is exactly why 120,000+ people trust it to keep an eye on their followers.

💬 Frequently asked

Hiding followers, answered

Can you hide your followers list on Instagram?

Not selectively on a public account — anyone can tap your follower and following counts to see the full lists. The only way to hide them is to switch to a private account, which limits both lists (and your posts) to approved followers only. Instagram has no setting to hide just the lists while staying public.

How do I make my followers private on Instagram?

Go to your profile, tap the menu, then Settings and privacy, then Account privacy, and turn on Private account. Once private, only approved followers can see your followers, following, and posts. Everyone else sees only your profile photo, bio, and counts.

Can I hide who I follow on Instagram?

Same rule applies: on a public account your following list is visible to anyone. Going private hides it from non-followers. If you want to quietly stop following someone without them noticing much, you can also unfollow — they aren't notified of an unfollow.

Can I hide specific followers from my list?

You can't hide individual followers from public view, but you can remove a follower (Settings on their entry, then Remove) so they no longer follow you — without blocking them. They aren't notified that you removed them.

Does Instagram tell people when I remove them as a follower?

No. Removing a follower is silent — there's no notification. The person simply no longer follows you, and would only notice if they checked and saw they'd have to follow you again.

Can I see who looks at my followers or profile?

No — Instagram never shows who viewed your profile or browsed your followers, and any app claiming otherwise is a scam. What you can see is who unfollowed you and who doesn't follow you back, which UnfollowCheck shows safely without your password.

Is it safe to use a tool to check my followers?

It depends on the tool. Anything asking for your Instagram password is a risk and should be avoided. UnfollowCheck never asks for your password — it reads only public data from your @username — so there's nothing to steal and no risk to your account.
