Archive a post
Open it → three dots (top right) → Archive. Gone from the grid instantly, preserved privately.

Profile → menu (☰) → Archive. The dropdown switches between Posts, Stories and Live.
Bring it back
Open the archived post → three dots → 'Show on profile'. It returns to its original spot — date, likes and comments intact.
Archive when in doubt — delete is for certainty
The two buttons look interchangeable and aren't. Delete starts a 30-day countdown to permanent loss; archive is a private shelf with no expiry. Anything you might conceivably want back belongs in the archive — the old era of your feed, the ex-era, the posts that don't match the current grid. You can always delete from the archive later; you can't archive from the void.
The grid-curation workflow
Profiles that look designed are usually edited after the fact: archive the posts that break the current aesthetic, keep the nine or twelve that tell today's story, done. It's the same fifteen-minute refresh as a new bio and matching highlight covers — and stories auto-archive by default, which is where highlights draw from. Old stories aren't gone; they're in the same Archive screen, ready to be promoted to a highlight.
Does archiving cost you anything?
Followers aren't notified and engagement is preserved, so the direct cost is zero. The indirect question — does a thinner grid change how new visitors convert — is measurable rather than guessable: watch your follower trend the week after a big archive session, and check the unfollower list if the number dips. In practice, curated grids convert better; the data will tell you if you're the exception.

How do I archive an Instagram post?
Open the post → tap the three dots (top right) → Archive. It vanishes from your grid instantly — likes, comments and the post itself are preserved privately. Only you can see archived posts.
How do I see my archived posts?
Profile → menu (☰) → Archive. Use the dropdown at the top to switch between Posts, Stories and Live archives. Everything is there in chronological order.
How do I unarchive a post?
In Archive, open the post → three dots → 'Show on profile'. It returns to its original spot in your grid — original date, original likes, original comments. Nothing resets.
Do archived posts lose likes or comments?
No. Archiving freezes the post exactly as it was — every like and comment survives, and all of it returns when you unarchive. That's what makes archiving better than deleting for posts you might want back.
Can followers tell that I archived a post?
There's no notification, and the post simply disappears from your grid. Someone actively looking for a specific post could notice its absence — but there's no marker, alert, or way to confirm archiving vs deletion from the outside.
What's the difference between archiving and deleting?
Archive is reversible storage: the post is hidden but fully preserved. Delete moves the post to 'Recently deleted' for 30 days, then it's gone permanently. Rule of thumb: archive when in doubt — you can always delete from the archive later.
