How to Change Your Instagram Password

Update your password for security, or reset a forgotten password to regain access.

To change password (if logged in): Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security → Change password → Select Instagram account. Forgot password? On login screen, tap "Forgot password?" and follow the reset link sent to your email/phone.

Change Password (When Logged In)

Open Settings

Go to your profile → Tap menu (☰) → Settings and privacy.

Go to Accounts Center

Tap "Accounts Center" at the top, then "Password and security".

Select Change Password

Tap "Change password" and select your Instagram account.

Enter Old and New Password

Type your current password, then enter your new password twice to confirm.

Save Changes

Tap the checkmark or "Change password" to confirm. You're done!

Reset a Forgotten Password

Can't log in? Here's how to reset your password:

Open Login Screen

Open Instagram and tap "Forgot password?" below the login form.

Enter Your Info

Enter your username, email, or phone number associated with your account.

Get Reset Link

Choose to receive the reset link via email or SMS, then tap "Send login link".

Check Email/SMS

Open the email or text from Instagram and tap the reset link.

Create New Password

Enter your new password and confirm it. You can now log in!

Can't access email or phone? Tap "Need more help?" for identity verification options. You may need to submit a video selfie or photo ID.

After Changing Your Password

This is normal – log back in with your new password.
